Something to Keep
For the movie Interstellar, director Christopher Nolan planted 500 acres of corn because he didn’t want to use CGI. After filming, he sold the corn and made a profit.

A Second Look
I love it when someone has such passion for something that they go above and beyond to make it happen. Nolan didn’t have to plant corn to make Interstellar, but I’m glad he did. There’s another story from the same movie involving a black hole. It took 100 hours to render a frame of the scientifically accurate black hole. For every second the audience sees the black hole, the special effects department spent 100 days rendering the final copy. As expensive and time-consuming as making those shots, they make a difference, and I think people are going to be watching Interstellar for decades, thanks, in part, to Nolan’s painstaking attention to detail.
Something I Liked
Although I loved the audio format, I haven’t listened to many true crime podcasts. A couple of weeks ago, I changed that when I checked out Allison After NXIVM, a fantastic series where actress Allison Mack talks about her involvement in the NXIVM cult. For those unfamiliar, Mack was a central figure in the cult, since she recruited and branded other women who were treated as slaves. While this podcast may not be for everyone, I was hooked as soon as I started listening. If you’re interested, it consists of only seven episodes, each lasting under an hour.
