The Magic of Good Enough

This Week’s BIG Idea

Good enough isn’t the best content. It won’t set the world on fire, it won’t make you popular or rich overnight, and it’s usually not seductive. That said, good enough gets done. You work on it for hours on end and even though there’s this inner voice telling you it’s not ready yet and that it needs more work, you release it into the world.

Perfect, on the other hand, is the best content. The one that attracts an audience, the one that wins you accolades, and the one that everyone shares on social media. Perfect, by definition, is impossible to achieve and as such, it’s never released. You have something with potential, but since the inner voice tells you to keep working on it, you do. You think you’re making progress, but you tinker so much with it, that you ruin what makes it unique. Despite what the voice tells you, embrace good enough even if it makes you vulnerable.

What I’m Working on

Over the past week, I worked on an ebook called The Beginner’s Guide to Stoicism. As its name suggests, the guide discusses the principles of Stoicism. It’s available for free to anyone who subscribes to my Substack newsletter.

What I’m Listening to

Pixies – Here Comes Your Man: for the last couple of weeks, I’ve been using Rocksmith to practice guitar. The digital tool features songs from popular bands. Rocksmith shows you a simple chord progression that becomes more and more complex as you hit the right notes, in a similar vein to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but using an actual guitar instead of a fake plastic controller. One of my favorite bands is Pixies because the songs are easy but incredibly fun to play.

What I’m Reading

Atomic Attraction by Christopher Canwell: the book compiles information from hundreds of case studies and tries to determine what makes men attractive. Although the ideas from the book are obvious, it’s a good resource to read nonetheless because you know real-life case studies back up everything the author brings up.

What I’m Watching

Toryumon Takeda – Drifters in Manga: whenever Archipel releases a new video, I’m there. The YouTube channel makes documentary-style videos that focus on Japanese creators and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen. The quality is outstanding and Archipel videos rival the production you’d see on big production teams, not on YouTube.

This Week’s Quote

“The reason people get good ideas in the shower is because it’s the only time during the day when most people are away from screens long enough to think clearly. The lesson is not to take more showers, but rather to make more time to think.”

James Clear
